2019 FINALS : Hania at last, Asal again

Defending singles champions Hania El Hammamy and Mostafa Asal of Egypt

Two Egyptian Champions crowned in KL : Hania at last, Asal again …

The 2019 WSF World Junior Squash Championship titles belong to Hania El Hammamy and Mostafa Asal after the top seeds won all- Egyptian finals in straight game at the Nicol David Arena in Kuala Lumpur.

Hania, appearing in her third straight final, finally took the title as she fought back from a deficit in the first game against second seed Jana Shiha. Having edged the opening game Hania was always ahead in the next two games, taking the title on a stroke and sinking to her knees in relief.

“I’ve finally done it,” she said, “I’m so relieved and happy,” said Hania, who follows in the footsteps of her brother Karim who won the Boys’ title in 2013.

Defending champion Asal fought back from 7-10 down in a physical first game against Moustafa Elsirty.

With plenty of contact, dives and discussions, Asal was handed a conduct stroke for excessive physical play as he pushed his opponent into the side wall. But the top seed settled down, took the final five point to take the lead, and was always in charge thereafter.

“It feels great to retain the title and join the likes of Diego, Mohamed, Marwan and Ramy,” he said, “I thought I played well today and I’m proud and happy to win the title again.”
