Teams Day ONE : Aussies upset Canadians

On to the teams …

The individual medals and positions are decided, but there’s no rest – it’s straight on to the Women’s Team event.

Afternoon Roundup : top six open up strongly as Aussies shock the Canadians

With two matches from each Pool to start proceedings, there were comfortable 3-0 wins for the top six seeds Egypt, Malaysia, Hong Kong, England, USA and India.

Eighth seeds Switzerland went two-nil up, but France took the third match to make it a 2-1 win. Canada v Australia went down to a deciding match, in which Australia’s Remashree Muniandy saved two match balls in the fourth before clinching the upset win for the Aussies.

Evening Roundup : England and Hong Kong double up

No upsets in the evening matches as Hong Kong and England recorded second 3-0 wins, although Katy Wells had to save match ball in the final match against South Africa.

New Zealand bounced back from afternoon defeat to beat Chinese Taipei and Korea notched up their first win, 2-1 over Sweden.
