Malaysia stun England, Spain oust India
The first pair of quarter-finals saw a big upset as Malaysia beat third seeds England 2-1, while second seeds Pakistan made quick work of beating Finland. In the evening matches defending champions and top seeds Egypt ended the run of the Irish, and the day ended with another upset as Spain beat fourth seeds India to reach the semis.
“Normally one of the quietest teams around the court, the Malaysian team’s confidence grew in leaps and bounds and they were very excited after the match,” said Corry Ihuhua. The upset means that for the first time in the history of the event England will not appear in the semi-finals.
