Looking towards Tokyo 2020

Japan only has a small team in Eindhoven, Satomi Watanabe in the Girls’ draw and Ryunosuke Tsukue in the Boys’.

SP_8263It’s an important time for Japanese Squash though, with the decision on which additional sports to add to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics fast approaching, and Satomi and Ryunosuke will be playing their part in that too.

They currently feature on the cover of the latest edition (volume 77) of Japan Squash’s magazine, and that poster is destined to be the centrepiece of a huge display in Shinjuku station [the world’s busiest!] by the time they return home, where the press will be waiting.

SP_8264They have been acting as junior ambassadors at home in the buildup to the WSF presentations to the Tokyo 2020 Additional Event Programme Panel on the 7th and 8th August.

We asked team manager Noriko Kamiya who would win the gold medals should squash make the games. “You’re looking at them, of course!” was the instant reply.

Fingers crossed everyone, fingers crossed …
