18-year-old Marcu Sim has been chosen to represent Malaysia at the World Junior Squash Championships in Bielsko-Biala, Poland, from Aug 6-17.
He will join forces with three-time British Junior Open winner Ng Eain Yow, Mohd Farez Izwan and Ong Sai Hung to help Malaysia repeat their semi-final feat in 2014.
This is a golden opportunity for Marcus as he has never competed in any of the age-group meets at the Asian Junior Championships.
The Bukit Jalil-based Marcus, who is from Kuching, is hoping to channel that excitement into his performance when the squash competition for Sukma starts on Saturday.
“I’m definitely very excited to be part of the world juniors team … it’s going to be my first and last time after all,” said Marcus, who is ranked No. 379 in the world.
“We have trained really hard for it and we hope to play well there.
“But first, I’m hoping to help Sarawak win a medal in squash, especially since we have home advantage … with our family and friends supporting us"
